Swept Away Negril
Swept Away Negril is my number 2 choice for a luxury resort in Jamaica. It's
an all-inclusive resort for adults 16 years & older, and is located in the
middle of Negril beach (which is
my top pick of beaches). The reasons I like this resort:
- The rooms - especially the Atrium and Beachfront Suites! This resort knows how
to build a room! Large bedrooms with king beds, louvered windows, huge verandahs with
hammocks, couches & coffee tables, and nice size bathrooms. I really like the showers
in these rooms, and even want to model my shower at home after these.
- The location - situated in the middle of Negril beach. You can walk for miles in
either direction on soft white sand.
- The service. Everyone here is extremely nice and helpful, and they really make you feel
welcome! From complimentary laundry service, to 24-hour room service, to the Scuba staff
to the Entertainment.... everyone will go all out to make certain you have the best stay possible.
- The food! There is nothing ordinary about the food at Swept Away! Each evening is a different
theme - Mexican, Italian, Jamaican, Continental and more. For the absolute best in dining, Feathers
Restaurant (reservations required) offers a 5-course meal with mouth-watering choices. I eat here at
least twice each time I go!
- Watersports. The staff will teach you how to sail, kayak, snorkel or Scuba dive,
and provide all the equipment you need. I like to take out a kayak and explore the
coves along the beach. Sometimes we take out a Sunfish sailboat, and cruise around the
bay.
- Complimentary tours & activites. Most of the resorts charge extra for tours, yet
Swept Away includes them in the price. I especially enjoy the catamaran cruise to the
Pickled Parrot (be careful if you cliff dive!). Other activites/tours include: golf,
a trip to Rick's Cafe to watch the cliff divers & sunset; a shopping tour in Negril,
and a trip to Margaritaville.
- Fitness facilities. There is a 10-acre sports complex across the street from the
resort. Here, you'll find an Olympic-size lap pool, a gym with all the treadmills
and Universal machines you can stand; aerobics & yoga classes, and a jogging track.
I only wish the gym was air-conditioned!
