Travel Tips - Leaving Jamaica
- Arrive at the airport no later than 2 hours before your flight time. If
you plan on purchasing souveniers at the airport, it's best to allow at least
3 hours.
- Charter flights are located on the far left side as you enter, while
the commercial airlines (American, Air Jamaica, etc) are in the middle or
to your right
- All airlines now require that each of your bags are searched before
checking in for your flight. Make certain to have each of them unlocked
and ready to go.
- Most airline tickets include the Jamaican departure tax. If it's not
included, you will be required to pay it upon flight checkin. The tax is
approximately $27.00, and can be paid in US dollars.
- After you check your bags, go through the security door at the
far right-hand end. Once you go past this door, you cannot return. If you
need one last cigarette before boarding, now is the time to smoke it!
- Once past security, you'll enter a large room with souvenier shops. This
is a great place to purchase bottles of rum and Jamaican coffee. There are
also food outlets, jewelry shops and sundry stores. Upstairs, you can get
a pretty good meal at Margaritaville
- There are monitors showing flight arrivals and departures. When it gets
close to time to depart, head towards your gate. You will be required to
go through another security check before boarding.
