About Us

The Jamaica Rock 'n' Blues Jam is a great group of fun-loving, sun-worshipping, party people from around the world who share a passion for great rock and blues music. Music is our life - we can't imagine a vacation without it - so we get together each year to play our instruments, sing and party down.

History

Way back in Sept 2001, just 5 days after the terrorist attacks on the United States, we headed to Hedonism II. While there weren't many guests at the resort, those who came to hear the music loved the idea, and we made plans to return each year.

In 2002, we moved the Jam over to Hedonism III. Our group grew substantially, with musicians from across the United States in attendance. Ed Lively, of "The Movers", was our special guest artist. Eric, a guest known as the "Hedo Bluesman", wrote & performed a song called "The Hedonism Blues". Denton, the drummer from Hedonism 2 and Bobby, the Hedo 3 bass player, joined us for onstage jams. Caribbean Travel & Life and Air Jamaica's inflight magazine advertised the Jamaica Rock 'n' Blues Jam. The word was out!

From there, we designed this website, changed our logo, and started handing out lanyards and tshirts to our members. We received submissions from around the globe, from artists wanting to participate in our group. Since the Jam is open to everyone, we not only invited the best, we invited them all!

In 2003, we brought even more musicians with us. A radio station from California heard about us, doing a remote broadcast of us from Hedo 3. Halfway through the week, the Jamaica Waterslide Team arrived, so we had even more musicians at the resort! We performed at the nude pool, at the disco, in the main dining room, and even the piano bar. Even on top of the waterfall during the Friday gala dinner. A vacation doesn't get any better than this!

Hurricane Ivan was the highlight of 2004. There's no way to describe how excited - and how scared - we all were during this storm. The most incredible day long jam occurred in the piano bar the day after the hurricane.

The legendary multi-Grammy award winner Tommy Allsup (Bob Wills & the Texas Playboys) was our special guest in 2005, along with his son, Austin Allsup. Tommy was a hit with all the ladies, and Austin definitely strutted his stuff with the younger crowd. Fans from previous years made an incredible showing, along with musicians from across the country.

Our group grows larger and more fun each year. In 2006, we brought the usual suspects/musicians with us along with some new ones. The Jamaica Waterslide Team joined in half way through the week, making our numbers grow. Jeff - one of our group leaders - won the "Hedo Hunk" contest, while the rest of us egged him on. We performed each day in the dining room, leaving our evenings to enjoy the nude pool, piano bar and disco. You don't get this every day.

For 2009, we had all the best musicians, including Blind Dog Cooley on guitar, Bob Luke on drums, Scott Morris on keyboards, the infamous Aram Doroff on bass, Marko on guitar, and Brian Condon on harmonica. We had a few jammers, got to play with the Reggae Band (and they sat in with us), and had a truly excellent time!

Breaking News! In 2010, we're back to Where It All Began at Hedonism II. Yes, that's right. We're heading back to the original Hedo resort, with the best beach, the best parties, and the best music. Make plans now to join us Sept 4-11, 2010. You'll be glad you did!
